Su Gorropu gorge is with no doubt one of the most impressive natural beauties on the island, it opens up in the Supramonte between the calcareous rocks of mount Oddeu and of the Cuccuttos peak. Dug by the force of the Flumineddu river waters, the gorge looks like an actual canyon with dizzy heights over 500 m high. The bottom, which can be visited only with the help of a guide, is an alternating of large smooth rocks, ponds and natural small lakes with rare species of birds of prey flying over it.
Excursions in the gorge are best done in Spring and Summer, the rain in Autumn can make the river path unsafe.
To get there from Dorgali go down towards the Oddoene region and continue along the valley of the Flumineddu river; after about 10km there is a fork in the road you will see an exit on the right with a signpost for Tiscali. Continue on this road until the bridge of Sa Barva where there is a sign for the path leading to the gorge.
